The Lyrics
I know what's to come,
though I'm feeling happy now, I know when I'm drunk, In ways it always lets me down, Cos I always stay too long, Long enough for something to go wrong, I'm in a brawl, because I won't take your lying now, The writing's on the wall, The Police are on they're way right now. Cos I always stay too long, Long enough for something to go wrong, Yeah I always stay too long, it's better late instead of singing my s-s-song, s-s-song, s-s-s-s-song-song, s-s-song. I've got my peeps there with me shouting pull up your socks, Cos we just broke the law and now were running from cops, I got my lip bust fighting, now there's blood on my top, And I'm still out looking for a party, somewhere to stop, I've got my peeps then telling me they know where it's at, So I pull out twenty notes and jump straight into a cab, I'm on my way to where I'm going thinking I need more Jack, But that probably ain’t the brightest idea I've ever had, 'cause.. I always stay too long, long enough for something to go wrong, (Hey!) On a run from the law, I'm lookin' worse for wear, I go for a door, Suddenly I find myself somewhere, Something's bound to go wrong, if I stay too long, I know I'm gotta get to dawn, |
before I start singin’ my s-s-song, s-s-song, S-s-s-s-song-song, s-s-s-s-song-song s-s-song s-s-song s-s-s-s-song song-song
Ah c'mon, ah c'mon, ah c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon! I've got my peeps then with me at the bar doing shots, Cos now we're so fucking plastered we don't know when to stop, I've got my girlfriend ringing me, belling me up, I know I should probably answer but I just can't be f*****, I've got my peeps then with me and I'm havin’ a blast, I'm feeling so f****** good right now, I want it to last, So I put my phone on silent, and I refill my glass, The music's so f****** banging feel I wanna dance, I'm at the bar and I see a chick checking me out, Form afar yeah she wants my d*** there ain't a doubt, She's got a skirt so short, it makes you drool from the mouth, Looking my way as if to say I'm in with a shout, so I pull a chair over there and buy her a drink, She says 'Cheers' I say 'yeah' , our glasses go clink Now I'm being bad in the car rubbing this girl, Once the cab is paid we make my way up to the hotel, Now I'm in the lift, getting lips, go nice and slow, but do I care? Do I f***! I'm on a roll, yo! Aaaaaaaah! |
About the Album - The Defamation of Strickland Banks
•The album tells the story from the first-hand perspective of Strickland Banks, a fictitious character played by Plan B.
•The album's opening tracks, "Love Goes Down" and "Writing's on the Wall", are love songs sung by Strickland Banks at a concert •"Stay Too Long" follows him and his entourage as they celebrate the success of his concert with a night out which culminates in him having a one night stand with a woman. This is the song which we plan on creating our video for. •In "She Said" we learn that this woman is obsessed with his music and believes herself to be in love with him. He rejects her so she alleges that he raped her. •The subsequent trial results in his incarceration, and in "Welcome to Hell" he is sent to prison, and much of the rest of the album is about his experience inside. |

About the Song
In this song which is the 3 track on the album; it depicts Strickland Banks (Plan B) just after he has performed a concert (the two previous songs on the album) going out on the town for a night with his mates. The whole album acts as a story split up into 13 tracks which are each like an episode in the narrative. In this trak he starts off drinking and having a good time but then like his song states he “always stays too long” and gets too drunk and ends up in a fight, running from cops and then the song ends as he meets a girl in a bar and then goes back to the hotel for a one night stand and cheating on his girlfriend. But what he doesn’t know until the next song is that she’s obsessed with him and this doesn’t turn out well.
Other Songs by Plan B
In the song “No Good” plan B (Ben Drew) puts a spin on conventional rap by creating an unusual pairing of modern day hip hop and soul based music. This type of approach is also used in some of his more recent material in songs such as “The Recluse” and “darkest Place”. Through this plan B has managed to reach out to a wide audience introducing them to this innovative approach of his interpretation of soul based music with a unique blend of hip hop.
In Plan B’s song “Prayin” we see a similar theme to that of “Stay Too Long”, it is the character of “Strickland Banks” in a bar socialising with some of his friends drinking alcohol and getting intoxicated. Throughout the video there is many references to alcohol and characters dancing, this is followed by an upbeat soundtrack and extreme close ups of the main character. |
We also see similar aspects from the” stay too long” video, for example all the characters are dressed in trim suits and expensive watches. This use of costume gives them a sense of importance or authority over some of the other characters who are not looking as “sharp”. There is also a lot of cross cutting between the band of “Strickland Banks” playing and of the story lines, this approach is also seen in plan B’s video “she said”, this is a popular approach in many of plan B’s music videos and they seem the generate a lot of excitement within the music indistry as many critics
