The 'Noir' Shot
We found this shot particularly interesting as it seemed representative of the film genre we wish to demonstrate influences from, this genre being 'film noir'. Here, we used different light sources and a black-white filter in post editing to create a dynamic contrast of light and dark that accentuates the surly mood Conor is posing with.
We conducted these lighting tests as we felt that the lighting in our film can be a very useful and dynamic tool. Thus we needed some practice into the different ways we can use it to alter the mood and create different effects. We were particularly interested in a film noire look as this appeals the ideologies we want to create. The dark and suppressed side of the music industry which entraps the artists into a downward spiral of commercialism and corruption. Noire shots are dark and dark with contrasts, just like what we are trying to portray. It is also very stylistic and adds a extra depth to the cinematic experience we're trying to create. Over all we want to use lighting to enhance our music video and add an extra depth to the shots.
Green Screen Tests!
We decided to experiment with technology frequently used in both film and mass marketing in the form of the media department's new green screen. We thought it would be particularly relevant due to our intention to represent our protagonist as being part of the commercial culture surrounding modern artists that involve specific endorsement of their brand and image. Our initial idea was to use the green screen in our media product as part of our superstars new television adverts, and we developed this idea further by incorporating tongue-in-cheek humour intended to parody modern artists and their endeavours into the realms of acting and advertisement.
Green Screen Advert
Bellow is the advert we came up with to portray the protagonist in a slightly demeaning light as he slowly becomes by consumed by the commercialism that surrounds modern day artists, as we described above. We used the green screen to change the background of the film to make it look comical and add the effect of how celebrities today are more concerned with money and fame than what they stand for and as a result take part in total unrelated endorsements to promote themselves in the lime light of todays modern celebrity rich society.
